About me
Racy Power dob 01/07/2015
Four years old as of early 2020. To be honest he is as keen as mustard. You may notice he doesn’t have any white markings. Dick Francis would get it.
Blissfully unaware of the dust-up he caused and Arthur cost the Charity a small fortune in bacon sandwiches, gravy dinners and cakes. Then we had to wash up!
Not a dog for a novice but it is a shame to think he will never leave our care.
Far far luckier than he knows.
UPDATE…after almost 4 years at Tia Arthur has finally decided he should get himself a home. He cried his eyes out when his kennel mate Pela was rehomed and wouldn’t ever kennel with anyone else. He has however decided that he will live in a home with 2 girls….greedy boy. Good luck Arthur…..

Rupert has had a terrible life and is lucky to be alive. Rupert deserves a home, a proper one. Not out working and having your face ripped off by badgers or being tied up to the bins in a notorious area in Doncaster, emaciated, infected and half dead.
Thanks to the Police who fetched him to us. I didn’t think his lip could be fixed but thanks to Chris from Donaldson’s, again, for doing a belting job.
Lovely, lovely soft dog who fell amongst thieves but is now ready to go back out into the world

Leah has found herself a foster home…
Leah, she is around 12 years old and has been let down by a horrible selfish person. She is a lovely old girl who deserved better. She needs a foster home where she will be spoilt rotten to the end of her days, not just to when you can’t be bothered anymore. All vets fees will be covered at Donaldsons vets.

To be honest I don’t know where to start, so I’m just going to say it.
We are moving to Scotland.
We have managed to buy a farm & hopefully secure the future for Tia. For two years we have tried to find a farm in Yorkshire but financially stood no chance, especially now with closing the shops. I’m so relieved we didn’t get another mortgage..
During the lockdown we did okay, we managed to keep the animals safe. We also had massive support and donations of food and we hardly bought any food for the animals for two years. Once again, I thank each and every last one of you. Other rescues were not so lucky.
With costs spiralling, the truth is we would have been bankrupt within a year if things had carried on. Tia finished, the animals dispersed, the one regrettable, the other unthinkable. For the animals, this charity is more than mere rehoming and most of our remaining charges cannot leave our stewardship. Who would take Kia and James together, Spot and Dot or Mr Mole and his brothers. Lets not forget our resident nutters who frankly are too dangerous to go anywhere. They are among the hundred souls who breathe more easily because this charity exists.
So we had to look further afield. We will have no mortgage but we will still need income to pay for everything else. We bought the new kennel internals over eighteen months ago and they will be going up in a temporary block. At some stage we will need to build a new kennel block. The shops have all gone (except for Pickering ), they were no longer viable, fortunately the leases were at an end in May so we have managed to get out of them.
So mid April we are off to Tia’s new home. The logistics are eye watering. We will be taking everyone. Everyone. We do have about 10 dogs to rehome before then but if we fail then there is enough bubble wrap for all. Dandy and Beano hopefully will behave this time and the newts can take a hike.
Once installed, we are just going to sit tight and ride it out, or as a volunteer said, circle the wagons! I am hoping that I am going to get some free time to actually sit down and turn a spotlight on the industry. Greyhound welfare is still a massive problem in this country and I have no intention of stopping fighting for these dogs. Three weeks ago I had to stop taking greyhounds in, I cannot tell you how upsetting that has been. Once settled, though, we can start taking the dogs again. All the greyhounds in Scotland are from down here anyway, the path is deep and wide up the A1.
As always, thank you for all your support over these past twenty six years and if you can carry on supporting Tia it will be massively appreciated. Things have changed dramatically for everyone I know and we are all in this together. This relocation is not ideal, nor what we wanted but at least we will be safe, hopefully.
I am going to miss seeing you and your dogs for now but if you do need me, I am always on the end of the phone and if any animals need to be returned to Tia, then we will sort it out. Only the post code has changed. Most folk won’t even realise we have moved.
And if you are travelling up to Scotland, we are just off the A96, “don’t wait to knock! Tea is at four; but any of you are welcome at any time!”

I would like to thank a few special rescues, that I trust, that have helped us out again with a lot of dogs. They are not interested in the bond from the racing industry. They are only bothered about the dogs, whether they have a £400 bond collar attached or not….Good rescues/people cannot be gagged.
Michelle, who helps out with the Scottish Greyhound Sanctuary….be good handsome boys, Cyrus & Jubb
Karen & Dawn from Greyhound Rescue, Boston. They have the lovely Mr Bear.
Naomi from Cheshire Sighthounds and Manda from Northern Greyhound rescue who i have no doubt are going to be falling in love with this lot in the morning….be good guys, Tallie, Birdie, Byron, Mooney, Darby, Abel & Nara…
Nara was one of the many that when finished racing her owner signed her paperwork over to say that she had been “rehomed as a pet”……clearly not.
That’s us down to just one kennel block now. The rehoming block will be stripped out as soon as. We do however have 9 dogs still available for rehoming…..It’s been really hard not taking any more dogs in the past few weeks but we have no choice.

We have now closed all the shops, apart from the Charity shop in Pickering. This was Hebden Bridge shop when we closed the doors last night, Sunday the 13th February, for the last time. The amount of people that came in over the last three days, wanting us to stay but understanding and wishing us well was unbelievable. One lady actually said that she had moved to Hebden Bridge as she liked the shops, especially ours, so much.
What struck me most though is that most of the customers thought that the shop had been run by volunteers, sadly that was never the case. The wages alone were around £40k.
The landlord was amazing and didn’t want us to go and didn’t increase the rent. But with everything else going up in April, we decided that we couldn’t take on another lease.
Thanks to my friends/volunteers who came to help over the weekend. It was a mammoth task but we did it. The surplus stock went to Shelter and Overgate and i really hope that Overgate take on our lovely shop.
Moving forward we are financially stretched to say the least….
If anyone could set up a monthly donation via the website it will be very much appreciated, no matter how small.
I have some good news however that I will be sharing soon…

The Hebden Bridge shop will closing on Sunday 13th February. We will be selling off all the stock and the shop fittings, including the rails and scaffold board shelving and the vintage haberdashery counter.
The shops just aren’t viable anymore with everything going up. Fortunately we are at lease ends with them all, apart from Pickering so this one will be staying open. To be honest it is a bit of a relief. I know we are going to take a massive hit financially but we can’t carry on as we have done.
I will be there all weekend if anyone wants to come and say goodbye/help.
I will be posting a full update on Tia soon.
Thanks Deb

I think we have had a Charity shop in Halifax for around fifteen years and we have been in the one at Southgate for over ten years. It has always been a decent shop, income wise. However come this April when everything goes up it will no longer be viable. We all know that everything is going up but they are even taking money off charities, all of us.
We used to get over half of our income from the shops which basically paid for the staff at the farm. It doesn’t take much working out that Tia is at the “End of an Era”….the whole model is having to change.
We have always had 100% rate relief on the shops but come April we will have to find 36%, as well as everything else. So yesterday the 28th January we closed our doors.
Thankyou to all our supporters/ donaters and shoppers over all these years. It is very sad.
But don’t worry, I have a plan. I am not giving up on these dogs, no matter what it takes, or where it takes us.
Deb
