This petrified mess isn’t in any notorious offshore hellhole. She is in Yorkshire.
NK PAJ is tattooed, micro-chipped and was found tied to a tree in Middleton Woods in this weather. Her brother and sister are still running at Sheffield and Monmore but this little scrap wasn’t fast enough to merit the cost of running on the main circuit under GBGB rules. Had she done so Gem would have qualified for a place in an official re-homing scheme. Consequently, she doesn’t exist within the racing world and the independent rescues have to break her and her kind’s fall on its behalf.
In some ways, she is a typical example of the dogs who fall into this forgotten category. Untraceable as far as the UK goes, we know she ran at Derry and spent some time coursing in Ireland. We can only speculate how she ended up in this condition in a Leeds park. Every rescue has a few of these dogs, they have no protection from the industry they were bred for (such as it is) and therefore are the most likely to fall among thieves. Tia alone has about fifteen in the kennel block right now, though thankfully not in this condition.
NK PAJ is trade waste to racing, nothing more. She weighs 13 kgs and these images were taken five days after her arrival at Tia. Tiny tiny meals as her stomach is so small. Look at the pressure sores on her legs caused by lying on concrete. We still aren’t sure if she will make it.
Thanks to the decent folks who made sure she found a soft place to fall. You know who you are and you restore our faith in humanity constantly.
There you go sweetheart, at least you’ll register on the Wall of Shame.

We had only been in Scotland for two days when Uriah let out the scream of death. He was playing in the garden, and I knew as soon as I looked at him that he had broken his leg. I also instinctively knew that it was cancer, which the vets soon confirmed. But I couldn’t let him go, not yet. I thought at best he might
have a good summer, but I really felt that he wouldn’t be around much longer…
We all prayed for more time, particularly Lana – they are inseparable.
Yet, unbelievably, seventeen months after having his leg amputated, Uriah is still here, going strong. He is an absolute gentleman, and every second with him is precious.

Here’s Molly dob 6/2/10
Tia received a phone call about an injured dog. Debs phoned a friend who went to the address to find a young greyhound bitch lying motionless in a stinking coal shed, dehydrated and in excruciating pain. She was chained up in a plastic bed without bedding, lying in her own urine. She rang Deb crying saying the dog needed to be put to sleep, she looked like she had broken her back.
Heres Molly was born in Ireland and raced at Kinsley, her last outing was in May 2013. Molly only managed to get her head in front once in her career and her connections threw in the towel. She was given away by her trainer, almost certainly at Highgate Flapping Stadium as one of a batch of failed racers. Trade waste disposal
Young Molly was out lamping a week ago and her owner managed to drive over her in the dark. He had thrown her from the vehicle and she got caught under it. Having met him we suspect he wasn’t in a legal frame of mind at the time. By rights she should be dead, however the softness of the ground meant that she sank under the weight of the vehicle and survived. The injuries were a few days old and she had a raging temperature. The only good thing to say is that he rang Deb. Sadly a lovely brindle bitch had to be left.
Our vets did a wonderful job and not for the first time that week. We had little hope when she started her crate rest at the kennels yet she staggered to her feet after 36 hours and urinated. The effort hurt her so badly that she repeatedly bit her handler trying to release the pain. To her credit, the volunteer didn’t give a damn!
We contacted her trainer. He swore that Heres Molly was the only dog he had ever given away. Really?
Liar. Liar. Liar.
18/3/17 update. Molly in the paddock. As you can see, Heres Molly has recovered and is no longer the shattered wreck that arrived here having been driven over by her owner. Indeed she has blossomed into one of the most beautiful girls to have crossed our threshold in recent years.
We would like to thank our vet team for their care but most of all our kennel staff and supporters who took special interest in this badly injured racer. Sadly we are beginning to accept that although Molly’s physical injuries are healed, her mental scars may be beyond anyone’s help. Her reaction to motor vehicles is extreme and alarming.
Still, time being a great healer, we shall monitor her progress and make her life as pleasant as possible. Molly loves being here anyway.
Her story can be read in our Racing Industry Section along with other Tia cases.

Llewin Potter dob 27.10.2011
Harper was racing down at Romford until September 2015. He has been here since March 2016 and been rehomed once with a fantastic Tia supporter, however his main aim in life was trying to drag her neighbours dog through the fence. In his youth he was a sod with other dogs but loves his life at Tia. He is the noisiest dog in the kennels and probably the softest. He is also the second oldest, coming up 12 years old in November.
Harper had an untreated wrist injury, which is causing him discomfort in his own age.

John’s Vic dob. 31.10.2015
Victor came to Tia in a hell of a state at 2 years old – no racing record and a nervous wreck. He used to sit at the back of his kennel afraid of human contact. Victor has been with us over 5 years, he is still a nervous boy, hates anything new, but is content with his lot…

Plan Impact. dob 1.7.2013
Michael came to us at 3 years old absolutely bald. It has taken a long time to get on top of his skin condition, but he is now fit and well and happy at Tia. His favourite time at day is when he is out in the paddocks waiting for any of the farm vehicles to go past so he can give chase and shout loudly.
Micheal was rehomed once, but he picked on the resident male and it didn’t end well. He was in a bit of a state and was fetched back home to Tia. He was so relieved to get back home, it’s quite sad really.
He is coming up 10 years old.
