Mars (Redbrick Mars)
born Oct 21
Very quiet and unsure. Needs someone understanding to bring him out of his shell. Mars will find his way with the right family. Last saw a track in earnest Oct 23.
Unfortunately, we don’t have any more photos of him, and not a great deal more to say other than Mars could probably live as an only dog or with a female hound. He’s been kennelled on his own since Elsa left and has been doing OK. He’s a very nice boy who again has been easy to walk.

Salacres Logan
born 22.6.2021
Drillers brother, and equally beautiful. Off to the races in tomorrow to see if he can add to his tally of 18 wins. Working lads don’t have time to chat and last week he was robbed. It is fair to say though that he is coming to the end of his career and ……it’s time!
Logan has around 100 races under his belt and still earning his corn. We hear that he is a nice calm steady dog but probably would not want to be homed with another dog. Likes girls though.
Here’s what we have learned since he came on our radar…
“Logan is a medium/large boy who is mainly white with a black mask, black patches, cute smattering of black spots on his nose and handsome brown eyes. He is quite the ladies man but not so keen on some of the other males. He is a really people friendly lad and a pleasure to walk. He is very nosey, interested in what’s going on around him and wants to investigate. He is also up for a cuddle and a good Greyhound lean on you the minute he gets a chance”

Romeo (Hawfield Romeo)
born 14th August 2021
A mercifully brief career. Romeo saw a bit of Ireland for a couple of months and then headed across the sea to Doncaster. Nine months start to finish, Romeo troubled the judge on only two occasions. Romeo was 33kgs of rippling muscle, dad being Droopys Sydney. Neither of which prevented having his *** handed to him by a slip of a girl 18 month ago. Our very own Maggie (Redbrick Bounty) thrashed him 6 1/2 lengths and he has only just recovered from the embarrassment. Been comfort eating ever since as he now tips the scales at 38 kgs.
Romeo needs love, a lot of it together with a big sofa. The big oaf is rather needy and we are looking for a special home. A retired person prepared to hold his paw and tell him it’s the taking part that counts would be preferable.
There is an outstanding dog in this crushed soul somewhere. Needs a quiet steady home to bring it out.

Oliver (Rhoden Oliver)
born June 2021
Great big lump. A huge friendly idiot whose tail is constantly wagging and loves the world. Kennelled with his sister who frankly knows how to behave correctly. Unlike Oliver.
Oliver blew his career back in August and has been protesting his innocence ever since. Red carded, disqualified, drummed out of racing, warned off Newmarket Heath. Do not darken this fine stadium’s door again. To be fair it was a rough race with little room for manoeuvre, and Oliver was the biggest. Sinking your teeth into the hot favourite is just not on though…
Daft game anyway.
“From the moment we met him to the moment we left, Oliver’s tail never stopped wagging – this is one happy boy! Oliver is confident and friendly and, despite it being his first time to the park, he took the whole trip in his stride! Oliver travelled well – jumping into the car and laying down for the journey and, when we arrived, he walked nicely and calmly on his lead and didn’t pull. Even when we saw small breeds and a squirrel, Oliver was pretty chilled out. He was interested in watching some smaller dogs running around off their lead but was soon distracted when we offered him a treat! The way to this boy’s heart is most definitely through his stomach!”

Saturn (Geneva Saturn)
August 2021
This lady is a hardworking Northern lass. Twenty-two wins out of nearly a hundred races and had a bit of an epiphany in a rough race last June. Saturn downed tools on the third bend and her connections quite rightly called it a day. The lady doesn’t owe the game a damn thing. Twenty – eight kilos and as game as a pebble.
Her trainer says she is a quiet girl and in spite of her form, likes nothing more than laying upside down with her legs in the air.
We have no problem with that! If she could find a home we might do it too!

River (Monbeg River)
born Jan 22
Likes to go for walks and be out and about. Meeting new people, that sort of thing. No-one told him that you had to move a bit faster to get on a track. River was last in his only race, back in Aug 23 at Enniscorthy. Hammered by 14 lengths, River found himself on a ferry bound for Doncaster and a fresh start. Maybe he was a late bloomer. Six godawful trials later and the trainer refused to be further embarrassed. Even our Branno beat him with ease.
This lad has been waiting for a home to show up and and spring him from the kennel of shame.
His trainer couldn’t agree more!

Dolly (Kilrue Dolly)
born June 22
Her career in the noble profession, for which she was bred lasted 104 days. We think the 18 lengths trouncing might have something to do with it. Her connections headed to the bar.
Dolly doesn’t care. Life is great. Terrific. Look at me. Another tiny girl, looking for her sofa. Everyone loves her and there will be some tears when she goes.

A Very Sad State Of Affairs
Looking back through Facebook, its always the same posts. Begging for money, begging for volunteers and begging for staff in the kennels. I don’t mean recently, its always been the same for the past twenty years.
We have really good staff at the Pickering shop, Emma and Sally and Josh who runs the office down in Doncaster. We have a fab team up here on the yard but we are down to just one (amazing) member of staff and 3 (equally amazing) volunteers in the kennels.
The slippy floor continues to be a risk to the dogs, there is only so much carpet you can cut, another major factor.
Of course Bob is picking up all the extra work but I’ve had enough. We haven’t had a proper holiday in 8 years. 7 days a week he does, every week, every month, every year.
So there are lots of decisions to made in the future. But for now there are no more dogs (unless emergencies like Duchess) coming in to kennels.
Every day trainers are begging for me to take their dogs. If I said yes there would be a race up the A1 to see who could get here first. And of course the offer of money, per dog, is going up.
We have eighteen sponsor dogs here at the farm. But I doubt Lana, Dot and Bungle will see the New Year in. They will as always get whatever they need. There are quite possibly thousands of dogs backing up in trainers kennels.
We have 15 empty kennels. It breaks my heart.

Hugo’s Journey
On a more positive note, this is Hugo.
Three weeks ago, he was in the stray kennel in Leeds.

A short stay here and now…

Good luck little man. A cracking little lad…
Boost and Annie
Poor Boost is having no luck whatsoever finding himself a home. So we wonder if a search alongside his kennel-mate, Annie, might prove more fruitful? It’s normally harder to find homes for two but both Boost & Annie need re-homing with another dog for company, so why not see if we can find them somewhere together?
Greyhounds are used to living in pairs and often benefit from having another hound for company. And let’s face it… it’s no more effort to walk two… it’s obviously the reason we were given two hands?!

Boost (left) is a lovely quiet boy who retired yonks ago and has been waiting over a year for a home. He walks nicely on his lead (no drama or silliness) and his calm nature gives kennel-mate, Annie, a lot of reassurance. Her trainer tells us timid Annie is like a different dog when Boost is around.
Annie is a shy girl who takes her time to get to know new people but is friendly with the people she trusts. She can be a bit worried and needs patient adopters who understand that she is not yet familiar with the outside world. Annie gains a great deal of confidence from Boost and would find it easier to adjust with him (or another calm dog) by her side.
We appreciate two is a big ask but this pair really do benefit from each other’s company.
Dolly
Her connections may have rolled their eyes when she came in 18 lengths behind the competition, but little did they know, there was method in the pint-sized madam’s madness!

See our Dolly doesn’t care for getting sand between her toes. She’d make an exception for the warm & sunny beach of St Tropez, but in the drizzle and damp of Donny, it really gave her the ick!The solution she realised was simple… hang back when the others leave the traps… and dawdle your way to the finish as if you’re out for an afternoon stroll! And now everyone thinks you’re rubbish, you can spend your days doing what you do best… looking cute & pretty! Not a grain of sand in sight!Dolly is 3 years old, very friendly and cute as a button. If you can offer Boost, Annie, or Dolly a home, please email rehoming@tia-rescue.org.
Please leave your phone number in the email!
Wood for sale
As some of you may know we have just over 30 acres of woodland here, mainly silver birch. We have recently had the woodland thinned out, but the contractors have left an awful lot of decent wood on the floor.

If anyone is wanting any firewood for next year, please get in with Deb touch on on 07974 960684. We are asking for donations for the Charity.

Salacres Bonnie
born 20.8.21
Twenty wins, and was in the van with the boys last night at Towcester. Bonnie came in last but didn’t disgrace herself as she is a pro! She’ll forge ahead next time and dazzle all the boys, you’ll see. All they will see is her backside. A straightforward lady in the kennel, who can be relied on to get on with her mate. A godsend to any trainer (and rescue).
There won’t be a dry eye in the house when Bonnie goes off to her family but her trainer would rather make it sooner than later. At four years old, Bonnie owes the game nothing and her connections would like to see her finish in one piece. They will miss her though.

Will (Chasing Williebe)
born Sept 21
A lovely friendly sort of lemon, who is great with his kennel mates. Loves everyone. He forgot to pack the talent he had shown in Ireland and hasn’t troubled the judges at Doncaster. Last spotted at said track from some distance away, back in November 24.
In short, his career leaves much to be desired! So what, even champions have to hang up their muzzles at some point and he does have eight wins to brag about.
Medium size dog who should be on his own sofa now. No-one has looked at him twice.
