Koda bear update.
He’s really settled in now – he’s such a good boy! He loves cuddles if you so stroking him he asks for more and takes every opportunity to get his head in your lap for a love.
He is much calmer these days – he doesn’t really react to any other dogs, even if they are barking, which is a huge step for him. He has been meeting lots of other dogs, and is very gentle, even with the little ones or ones he isn’t quite sure what they are. He goes to the shop at work every day and has the retail receptionists wrapped around his little paws, so he gets biscuits and cuddles on demand lol! He still loves his toys and will try to steal babies of the shelves any chance he gets. We let him choose his birthday present a few weeks ago, and he had a very tough choice, but settled on a pink flamingo, which he currently thinks is the best thing ever!!
He’s getting really good at leaving it and will come away from anything when told – even the next door neighbour’s cats. When he first came home, he would lose his mind if he saw one or in their garden, but now he isn’t really interested, and if he does watch them (mainly if they are running up the garden), when told to leave it will stop looking at them and walk away
🙂 he’s getting really good at recall now too. We are lucky enough to have access to enclosed fields at robs parents, and he loves to play wild chase games with Woody.
His laryngeal paralysis is virtually unnoticeable now, and he happily walks, runs and plays with no trouble.
He’s an absolute gem, and we couldn’t imagine life without him now.
Hopefully we might make it to the summer fair, so will bring him with us if it’s not too warm for a visit, so hopefully see you then!

Weekly Update.
We have had another good week on the homing front, 3 ponies, Romulos, Poppy and the lovely old Angel…
Pitt a beautiful black greyhound boy has gone to his new home too. We have a couple more greyhounds reserved.
We lost one of the ducklings, probably a bloody crow or bird of prey, of which we have plenty…
And we thought we were going to lose our old Shetland pony Sunny. But thankfully he is okay. They are such a worry the little ones when they suffer from laminitis. It’s really difficult to get the right diet. Which doesn’t include grass!!
It’s Monday morning, the trainers are going to start ringing anytime wanting to fetch the dogs in. It’s always a juggling act. If we had a thousand kennels they would be full.
At least the weather is cooler today so the dogs will get a proper runaround. They have had only limited exercise over the weekend…

Weekly Update.
The beginning of the week brought us Lenny, Harvey and Faith. 3 beautiful greyhounds from the track at Doncaster.
Wednesday we had to take Patsy and Reggie to the Oakham equine hospital. Patsy came to us last year after being dumped as a baby and had two tumors that had to be removed. Reggie has recently come to us, a yearling colt, and he has problems with his waterworks. Basically, he can’t stop peeing. They couldn’t find anything really wrong so we are trying him on medication to see if it helps. We can always hope that it is something that he will grow out of, but who knows.
Wednesday also brought us Mini Monty, a 4-week old colt. They said he had been abandoned….mmm. We took him to a lovely foster home on Friday.
Saturday 2 greyhounds came in that had been dumped locally with a trainer, welcome to Tia, George and Astrid.
Sunday brought us Lola, a lovely black greyhound girl advertised on Preloved, oh yes the people that collected her gave you false details by the way. Thankfully they are Tia supporters and fetched her here.
Sunday evening on our way back home after the curry/wine run I saw a dead foal in the field at the bottom of the road. It was the same foal we caught a few weeks ago as she needed treatment for a sore bottom.
Oh, and the RSPCA have asked someone to stop watering the ponies as “they are hampering their investigation.” The same ponies that we have been looking after since February. Well at least they stuck a bit of paper on the gate….ffs

About me
My Way Longley. dob 1.9.2012
Langley raced at Belle Vue until he was nearly four years old. He wasn’t really very good, just an honest card filler. When he was no longer of any use his owner left him at the trainers with the instruction “put him to sleep” and promptly stopped paying the kennel bill. That happens more often than you think.
Fortunately the trainer and a “greyhound friend” arranged for him to come here one evening. Another black dog, slowly making his way down to the sponsor end of the kennel block like so many others here,
This older lad has been here for some years, he is a big gentle black hound with mesmerising eyes. Langley is settled and happy. Nobody ever chose him to go and put his feet up, he also remains as keen as mustard towards all things small.
Langley is coming up 11 years old. He is going grey and getting wobbly but he still loves going for a stroll around the big grass paddock. He has been a pleasure all these years.
