Winter sorted

Winter sorted

As you all know we are struggling massively financially but I have no intention of losing this Charity or the animals.

When we got some money in July from my old friend Cynthia I might have done a little bit of panic buying.

We had made our own haylage in the summer so that saved us a lot of money.

The Butchers food was donated as were all the carpet squares for the bottom of the dog beds.

So that’s us set for the winter….we still need Chappie and Sardines and all the time but other than that I think we are sorted..

Obviously that doesn’t include all the monthly outgoings but we are in a better position than some and the farm is owned by the Charity….we will just sit tight and hope for the best…

I wish I slept as well as Uriah & Lana

A Little Quiz

A Little Quiz

What is it that these dogs all have in common?

Are they all the same colour?  No

Are they all the same age? No

Did they all race at the same track?  Yes

Were they all rehomed responsibly?  No

Were any of them rehomed responsibly by their trainer? No

Were they all rehomed by the same trainer? Yes

The little blue girl, Scarlets Choice found herself being picked up as a stray and ending up in the stray kennel at Penistone just over a couple of weeks ago. She was very popular on Facebook, 567 shares and not 1 offer of help except from me. Fortunately for her I had some good friends who were on the lookout for a new girl. Their last beautiful greyhound girl lived until she was 15 years and 1 month…

She hadn’t been spayed and she was done prior to rehoming. Here she is a few days later….what a lucky girl you are.

The trainer? Low Life Serial Offender….K Bowman…Doncaster Greyhound Stadium.

Just Wow

Just Wow

Who would have thought that when we “acquired” these ponies in 2018 that this would happen. We found out that one had already died and someone local was feeding these little ones. When we went to get them they were so weak that we literally picked them up out of this hell hole, we didn’t know if they would ever make it. Fortunately they were all unwanted, abandoned colts so no one came looking for them. Here is Athos and a write up from his proud owners.

Hi Deb,
It’s been over three years since Athos came into our lives, and what a time that has been! He certainly is the cheeky chappy you described in your Facebook post back in 2019.
Athos has gone from strength to strength, competing at our local riding show in North Wales, Lloc and District, placing 4th at STARS last year in the ridden coloured pony and then this year……. Athos won his in-hand class out of 45 stunning ponies!! He then went into the evening Supreme performance and only went and won overall in-hand Supreme!
I cannot thank you enough for allowing Athos into our lives. He and Mia have a fantastic bond; he has helped her in many ways this past year. He is such a lovely, honest pony.
I’ve attached some pictures from the weekend.
Take care,
Leona and Mia
A Fabulous Opportunity

A Fabulous Opportunity

We have had absolutely no joy in recruiting locally for someone to come and work with the horses. So we are casting the net further afield.  As you know the welfare of all our animals is paramount and we need the right person/people to come and join our small, but fabulous team.

We are looking for either one person or a working couple to come and live and work here at the farm. It will include all general horse/yard and maintenance duties. The list is extensive.  The bonus is you will get to live in an amazing part of the world and accommodation will be provided.

So if you are wanting to come and join us please give me a call.

Salary will depend on experience.

Own transport, love of horses and experience with horses are essential.

Angus

Angus

About Me

Angus is a cracking boy, now ready to leave foster care for his forever!

Angus has come on leaps and bounds in a short time in foster care and is looking for the very best of homes. He is a 10 month-old large lurcher (deerhound cross) and has so much to give, with time and more training.

He’s a dream around the house, no accidents, no chewing, not food possessive. He is recently neutered. He is stil a pup and can be boisterous (jumpy and mouthy, when on lead or outside) and would therefore not suit a home with young children or dogs that can’t keep him in check (currently in foster with two female sighthounds). He has a big waggy tail, and likes to nuzzle into you. He’ll need a fully enclosed garden and ideally a 3 point harness for walks. He travels well.

We have to get this right for adorable Angus and so are therefore willing to travel the distance to find his forever home.

If you think you can give Angus what he needs please contact Debs on 07974960684

A Tia Update

A Tia Update

We have had to make some changes over the past six months and probably will have to make more in the future. We are managing to survive, just. One of the main things is that we have no mortgage and the animals are safe, the new interest hikes would have finished us off without a doubt.

We would like to welcome Judi, who is doing the sponsorship scheme for us on a voluntary basis and is doing a brilliant job.  Judi is situated in Derbyshire. (Not Local either?)

We would also like to welcome Alex, he is our first fundraising manager and is also doing a brilliant job. You will see lots of new things appearing soon. If you do want to do any of your own events please get in touch with him and I’m sure he will help in any way he can. Alex is situated in Clitheroe. (Not local either?)

We still have Christy , thank god, who is situated in Leeds, but spends a lot of time up here..(so is she double local?)

And we have had a change in Trustees. Big welcome to Anita  who was originally a Trustee and made me register as a Charity, she actually dragged me into a solicitor’s office to do the Trust Deed.

Big Welcome to Aileen and Trudy, who you will know from the great work they do with Greytexploitations.

Judi  :  sponsor@tia-rescue.org

Alex  : alex@tia-rescue.org

Christy : ( all general enquiries)  info@tia-rescue.org

Deb :    deb@tia-rescue.org  & rehoming@tia-rescue.org

Thank you from everyone at Tia…..where ever we are situated.

Local?

Local?

I have researched the word but it doesn’t seem to fit. Although the kennels are now in Scotland the work in Yorkshire hasn’t stopped, the day to day routine with the animals hasn’t stopped. It doesn’t seem to make any difference where me and Bob sleep the work of the charity is exactly the same.

For example; getting a lot of dogs off the allotment with the help of Manda from Northern Greyhound Rescue, (although there are still a lot of dogs on there that they won’t part with ). Getting Angus the rough coated lurcher up here from Hull  as no other “local” rescues would take him. Getting the 2 whippets off the allotment into a “local” foster home in Leeds within 24 hours of them being taken there.

Getting Rita’s dogs back to her last week in Chorley. I did an eight hundred mile round trip. So no I guess I’m not actually “local” to anything…except my dogs and if they ever need my help? I’m on my way.

This is Zuko when he got back home. He had never been in kennels, Rita got him direct from Ireland as a useless pup. Over seven years he has lived in a home, never experiencing kennels. The transporter from Silsden nearly killed him & Bandit when he fetched them up.  He had been at Tia for two months and he had a lovely comfortable journey back home…it’s called a decent sized travel cage and bedding….

I have to admit I was sad when I saw the signs for Yorkshire Dales and the M62….but this cheered me up no end. And obviously the fact that my mate has made a full recovery…Deb
