How I learned to stop worrying and love greyhounds

How I learned to stop worrying and love greyhounds

We received the following email from Jennifer earlier this week about her meeting with Hedley, an ex Tia resident, and it gave us a chuckle.

Well let me tell you a story ?. I am 70 and really a cat person with a few special exceptions.
So I am just about to have my kitchen redone. ‘What?’ I hear you say. Stick with it.
We were in the kitchen showroom in 3 Legged Cross, Dorset, with Dave, when the most beautiful soul on legs came down the stairs. Apologies from Dave as the dog sitter was sick. Suddenly my fear flipped into love at first sight! Hedley (ex-Tia resident) was missing Daddy and had come to find him. As we sat down in the office, Hedley looked at me. Oh heart flip!. Dave said he has had rescue greyhounds from Tia for years and Hedley is his current love. Hedley has chosen his car and moved house so he is closer to the New Forest.
So, I surfed the Tia website. The Sheffield 13 came up. Oh my goodness. Finally those beauties luck has changed. I was so moved I have donated. I have 4 cats otherwise I would be up to visit you. So I am compelled to tell you the story of how I fell in love with greyhounds.
My best wishes to you in all you do and if you think a greyhound wouldn’t chase my 4 kitties i will be up. Suspect though there would be much merriment?.
The Sheffield 13: Update on rescued greyhounds

The Sheffield 13: Update on rescued greyhounds

They were hidden away in the dark for far too long. Their journey to recovery has started at Tia Rescue.

Some of them clearly can’t believe the change in their luck; they’re overjoyed in their new warm beds and delighted to be running in our secure paddocks. There’s giddy behaviour and much tail-wagging. Others, like Mr Mole, are still decompressing. It will take time, but they’re safe at Tia and will be given all the love and attention they need.

Please help us help these precious souls. Please share their story, and please donate. We rely entirely on donations, we don’t receive any funding.

From Sophie…one of our fab kennel assistants:

“Earlier on i saw Polly Pocket, one of the new girls lying in her bed on her back, really gently rolling around in the bed and rubbing all of her face with her paws, bless her. Having a snuffle around, so quietly and gently. She wasn’t playing, she was just having a little lovely moment and enjoying her life. It was the nicest, sweetest thing i have ever seen “

Update: Greyhounds and lurchers on the move at Tia Rescue

Update: Greyhounds and lurchers on the move at Tia Rescue

MASSIVE THANKS to everyone who has come forward to help. We have managed to adopt out 4 dogs, 9 have gone into foster homes and 4 went to Hull Animal Welfare….Thanks to everyone….our resident lurchers, James, Spud, Jack and Kiah are especially grateful to get their own beds back. The vet room is all well and good, but nosey lurchers can’t see what’s going on.

Yes we still need foster/permanent homes… I went back to the allotment on Friday; there are other dogs there on some other gardens. We will keep you updated.

It has been a hectic week to say the least. Thanks everyone….we couldn’t do it without you…..Deb

Mr Mole. Rescued Greyhound

Mr Mole. Rescued Greyhound

Mr Mole is a beautiful, terrified soul. He is just starting to feel at ease, lying still and trying to be invisible. He’s had a run in one of our paddocks and felt the sunshine on his back. He’s also had biscuits, sausage rolls, and snuggles and love.

Animal welfare issues never go away, and neither do we. Please continue to support Tia, and help us help him and his 12 friends. You can make a donation through the ‘Paypal’ button at the top of this page, even if you don’t have a Paypal account. Any donation you can make helps and is very much appreciated.

Canisa: From Tia to the Netherlands

“I am Canisa. Ten weeks ago I was adopted from Tia Rescue and I moved to the Netherlands to be with my new mummy.”

As some of you will remember, Canisa was recently rehomed in the Netherlands with Laura. Canisa, with some help from Laura, has provided us with an update on her journey from the UK and how she has been settling in, which you can read by clicking here.

It is a disgrace. GBGB

I don’t very often get involved publicly with this stuff. But the Heaton’s kennels are beyond belief.
They have been “looking after” greyhounds like this for the past 24yrs that I know of. I have no idea how long they have been racing greyhounds.
I have had a lot of dogs off them over the years.
The Greyhound Board of Great Britain will try and tell you it’s a one-off, they have fallen on bad times, they will give them money to do up their kennels. It’s not that long ago that they moved here and not only do they race greyhounds now, but the move to these kennels has allowed them to run boarding kennels and breed designer dogs.
They will do anything for money but continually plead poverty.
It has really struck home to me this year that no matter what Tia and other rescues do, that this problem is still massive.
These trainers and others like them are allowed to continue keeping these dogs in these conditions by the GBGB….It is a disgrace.
The stories I could tell….
GBGB licensed kennels   /  Tia Rescue unlicensed rescue kennels.
Still, there isn’t a problem with the racing industry. Is there?
Lets find a home

Lets find a home

We need to find this little chap a home..
He’s 6 months old, chipped, all papers and jabs fleas worms etc. From a working farm. He’s very sweet but very very timid perhaps needs a female adopter.
All enquiries to Deb at Tia rescue.

A big thank you

A big thank you

Many thanks to all staff and customers of the Auckley and Kirk Sandall Co-op stores for supporting Tia Rescue over the last 12 months.  By nominating Tia Rescue as their chosen charity, shoppers have donated to us every time they have used their Co-op membership card.  The money will be put to very good use caring for the animals at Tia Rescue.
Once again, thank you for your support, it is very much appreciated!
