About Me

Salacres Benedict 25.7.18

Our stowaway. Thought he was off to Towcester again yet found himself on the Transporter with the rest of the gang. Not before time. Fell out of love with the game and his form has tailed off of late. 5,6,5,6,6,6 says it all. His owners wanted him safe.

He will be.  Big lump at 33 kg.

One dog wasn’t on the transporter

One dog wasn’t on the transporter

Corrigan has been failing for quite a while with many an emergency dash to the vet recently. After much deliberation we made the decision to let him slip through our fingers and spare him the distress of the move. He had undoubtedly had enough.

We quite clearly remember the day he arrived at Moorside, frankly in a bit of a state. Corrigan had fallen amongst thieves and we are leaving his story up on the sponsor page for a few days for those that are interested.  A special thanks also to his loyal little gang of sponsors. Please don’t desert us, there are other greyhounds, some of whom have no-one to support them!

He took advantage of the peace and quiet yesterday as many an old man does when the youngsters have left for the pub.  Thanks to Chris at Donaldsons once again for making a special trip for us, one of so many over the years, Bob, Chris and Deb all sat outside in the sunshine whilst the old boy fell asleep with his head on Deb’s knee. No fuss, no drama and always with the animals welfare the only priority.

Let’s remember Corrigan at his best, a breathtakingly beautiful athlete, a beautiful sheen on his blue coat and running for his own pleasure. We loved him and we will miss him. See you on the bridge kid.

Homes needed

This weekend is the final weekend for rehoming, as when we get to Scotland we will have to wait for a licence before we can start again.

I think it is a really good thing that rescues are licenced, some of them i have been to over the years are disgusting. And that does include ones used by registered charities.

So we will still have to rehome, Elias, Rupert, Malcom, Arlo and Ada…..and Jack & Jill but we have never had an enquiry about them…

Terence….Mr Moles brother

Well what a worry this boy is. I know you shouldn’t have favourites but he is, there I’ve said it. Probably because since he came in, one of the Sheffield 13, he has been at the vets a few times. None of his own doing I may add.

He started last year just not being right, bad skin and his hair started growing longer than it should. Numerous tests & treatments later we found out that he has Cushings disease and not just the normal one but the Adrenal bloody tumour type.

He was at the vets the whole last week in March as he had stopped eating, but he doesn’t like the vets and was becoming more and more depressed. So he is back home, on medication. He is getting thinner day by day but he is eating and being spoilt. There is a chicken cooking as i type and Bronia is off to the butchers tomorrow for mince…

He will not go back in the vets, he will be put to sleep at home…lets hope it’s not for a good while yet…

Update on the move

Update on the move

First of all I want to say thank you to everyone who came on Sunday to say goodbye to their sponsor dogs. It isn’t a good bye, it’s just see you later when you are travelling through Scotland. It is a great base to travel the Highlands…

The dogs are going up Wednesday 13th April and the horses Friday 15th April.

Bronia & Amy are taking the horse wagon with a lot of the dogs in and I have a trainer taking the rest up. They will be leaving here early doors to get them up there and settled.

We have booked the whole of Gillies Horse Transport fleet for the horses, so if you do pass them on the motorway give them a wave.

We have had lots of vans, wagons and volunteers up and down the motorway and staying at the farm getting it ready. It has been a mammoth task and it’s not finished yet.

If you would like to send sardines/Chappie or anything else up for the dogs it would be appreciated.

Thanks Deb

ps even the feral cats are coming.

Malcolm

Malcolm

There was a review in Parliament this week, people asking for racing to banned.

But one absolute joke of a human being, Ian Lavery basically said that the dogs are kept better than his own kids and you can eat your food off the kennel floors.

Tell this dog that who has just spent a week in the stray kennel.

Apparently he hasn’t met one person who is horrible to greyhounds. And the majority of the stories of mistreatment are made up.

Maybe he needs to move or go to Specsavers. The arrogant, ignorant idiot.

Oh and Malcolm only has one testicle and horrible teeth…that’s going to be another big vet bill that we cannot afford.

Still there isn’t a problem with greyhound racing is there?

A right pasting

A right pasting

Yep, we have had a right pasting over the past few months with the Shires.

First we lost Reggie, then Victoria, then Hugo and yesterday my wonderful Thunder. The trouble with the big horses is they have a lot of weight to carry around.

Thunder was my first Shire horse….the biggest, softest gentleman there ever was.

It is a really bad time, but at least they were all loved right up to their very last breath…
