Madeline (on Foster)

Madeline (Salacres Mags)

d.o.b. 1/5/2021

Alright alright. Everybody back. Show a bit of decorum!

Isn’t she gorgeous? Let’s just gaze on her loveliness while we can. Madeline won 4 of her forty races. When you are this beautiful, you don’t need to try.

Thirty kgs, came in last back in July and will probably be gone in 60 secs.

“Introducing Madeline (formerly Salacres Mags). Madeline was born May 1st 2021 and won 4 of her 40 races. She has lost the last part of her tail in an accident but it still wags when she’s happy which is most of the time. Currently on foster with 2 other hounds and has settled in very easily.  Madeline is a very affectionate girl and loves cuddles. She walks very easily and politely on the lead, she is a well-built strong girl and is happy for you to guide her where she needs to be. Madeline can climb the stairs easily and sleeps happily on the landing. She is clean in the house and will sleep through for normally 7-8 hours. Loves playing with soft toys but doesn’t destroy them.

She gets on well with other breeds she has met and generally ignores them, having recently retired she still has a high prey drive and will show interest in cats, squirrels etc. Madeline has engaged with children and loves a cuddle, she is a powerful girl so care needs to be taken around them. She has been regularly left for 4 hours at a time with no destruction. Madeline travels well and jumps straight into the vehicle without hesitation. She is food orientated but this is easing, she has not stolen food or attempted to get to the kitchen counters. Currently on foster in North Notts and meetings can be arranged by calling Deb on 07974 960684.”

Mac (Salacres Mac)

d.o.b. 9/9/2020

Another Mac, a ghost of a blue dog who finished with this game eight weeks ago.  Big fellow at 36 kgs, Mac took seven of his 38 races, including a couple of Opens. At four years of age, he has nothing to be ashamed of and has finished in one piece.

Mac can be seen at his trainers in Nottingham so please ring Debs if you are interested.

We Want Your Stamps!

We Want Your Stamps!

It’s day three of Tia’s advent calendar, and today we’re talking… stamps!

With the festive season now underway, many of you will of course be receiving plenty of cards from friends and family. Please don’t throw away the envelopes – Tia Rescue can raise funds from used stamps!

All you need to do is cut them from the envelope, making sure you leave a good border so the stamp isn’t damaged. These can then be posted to our Pickering Charity shop at;

I am very tired. Also, very stiff. This man seems really nice though and it is lovely and warm here, he also has two other dogs . The boy dog is besotted with me, I don’t know why, the state I’m in.  Admittedly I am a bit moth eaten at the moment, but I hope my hair grows back soon. A girl has to make an effort after all. I have been missing for months, and I hear a lot of people have been looking for me. Bit of a welfare case, bit of a dust up.
Turns out I wasn’t very far away from my old trainer’s place. Little charmer gave me to his mates, didn’t he. I never knew who was going to feed me next, I’ve had so many homes. That’s another thing, food in this new place is epic.
I was one of the four girls that went missing from the kennel in Doncaster before he was banned.
From a previous news article:
Four dogs have been named as officially missing. Midas Tralee, Ballymac Puddles, Racenight Franco and Ballygur Mia. The trainer admitted that he has no idea where they are. Mia showed up this week, crouching in a driveway in Kent. She was dehydrated, scabby and starving but alive and all credit to all concerned in helping her. A lot of folks went out of their way for her. Hopefully the other three are out there somewhere. Anyone who thinks that twenty-seven is the total, is guilty of self-delusion.
Midas Tralee also turned up down South a few weeks ago and now we have Racenight Franco. Welcome to Tia Frankie.
She was picked up as a stray in Leeds. If anyone knows the whereabouts of Ballymac Puddles could you please let me know…Thanks Deb
Ps Message for the GBGB….  Great new Welfare Strategy guys…..outstanding.
Website Donations

Website Donations

It’s time to talk about donations.

Many of you understand that when you donate (or buy goods) via our website, Tia is charged a small transaction fee for the privilege of using PayPal, which currently sits at 1.4% + 20p, per transaction. Although this is a lower rate than what a regular “for-profit” business would be charged, the financial hit is still significant.

Put into perspective; from the beginning of this year until the end of October, Tia received just over £36,000 in donations and payments via our website, for which we were charged just over £700 in fees. That amount of money could have paid for 35 bags of dog food, which we use one of every day.

Let’s face it; PayPal doesn’t need the money. But we do.

So, if you are thinking of making a donation – one-off or recurring – we would urge you to do so via BACS/ standing order.

We have always offered donors the chance to set up monthly standing orders to support us, and we now offer an even easier way to set this up via our website. If you want to make a regular donation (either one-off or recurring), you can do so here. Enter your details, and upon completion of checkout, you will be provided with our bank details to set up payment yourself.

We also offer a similar option for sponsorships, and our monthly lottery; at checkout select “direct bank transfer”, and again you will be provided with the relevant details upon completion.

We know it’s less convenient than a quick online payment, but you’ve seen the potential difference the extra money can make to us.

Thank you.

Pets At Home Lifelines Issue Resolved

We are pleased to update you that the issue when selecting Tia Greyhound and Lurcher Rescue to receive Pets At Home Lifelines is now resolved! Customers who shop at Pets at Home can now select to support us, no matter the distance they live from the kennels in Nairn. On the app, it will populate the nearest to you, but there is now the option to search above if you want to support us. Rather than the app saying “No Charity Found” , “Tia Greyhound and Lurcher Rescue” will populate.

Keiran

Keiran

Keiran is a handsome 5 year old greyhound boy who is really loving and friendly with people. He shows his happiness and affection with a waggy tail, wiggly bottom, chattering teeth and by leaning in for a cuddle. He can be a bit boisterous in his excitement so would be better with slightly older children, say 8+, rather than very young ones.

Keiran has been in foster in Barnsley with a female greyhound since the beginning of September, and is now very used to a home environment whilst still gaining exposure to the outside world. He is toilet trained, sleeps through the night in a crate in the bedroom, and has been left home alone (with the greyhound girl) for up to 5 hours with no issues. As he’s quite a confident chap, we believe he would be content as the only dog in the household, but would certainly thrive in the company of another female greyhound. He travels well (although hasn’t yet jumped into a car unaided) and walks nicely on the lead.

He is a bit nervous around other dogs, especially small fluffy types or off lead dogs, and if there is a close encounter not to his liking he will either back up against your legs, or have a little snap at the dog in question. As he’s still getting used to being out and about and meeting other dogs, he has been muzzled on walks, which he is fine with. He has also been socialised on some sighthound group walks which he has enjoyed.

He has taken some interest in squirrels in the park, but hasn’t really pulled or shown a big prey drive. He would be too reactive to live alongside a cat, however.

Keiran’s teeth were in very poor condition, and he recently had a dental at the vets, which culminated in all except his 4 canine teeth being extracted. For his meals he eats kibble and meat, and is now on softer treats. He behaved very well at the vets and is clearly used to being handled, standing patiently to be brushed and cleaned etc. He is in good health, although could do to gain a bit more weight, and is neutered and vaccinated.

He’s a happy soul, quite straightforward and will really make a smashing pet for someone who can continue the good start he has made whilst being fostered.

If you want to learn more about Keiran, you can do so here. If you are interested in rehoming him, please get in contact with us
