A Very Sad State Of Affairs

Looking back through Facebook, its always the same posts. Begging for money, begging for volunteers and begging for staff in the kennels. I don’t mean recently, its always been the same for the past twenty years.

We have really good staff at the Pickering shop, Emma and Sally and Josh who runs the office down in Doncaster. We have a fab team up here on the yard but we are down to just one (amazing) member of staff and 3 (equally amazing) volunteers in the kennels.

The slippy floor continues to be a risk to the dogs, there is only so much carpet you can cut, another major factor.

Of course Bob is picking up all the extra work but I’ve had enough. We haven’t had a proper holiday in 8 years. 7 days a week he does, every week, every month, every year.

So there are lots of decisions to made in the future. But for now there are no more dogs (unless emergencies like Duchess) coming in to kennels.

Every day trainers are begging for me to take their dogs. If I said yes there would be a race up the A1 to see who could get here first. And of course the offer of money, per dog, is going up.

We have eighteen sponsor dogs here at the farm. But I doubt Lana, Dot and Bungle will see the New Year in. They will as always get whatever they need. There are quite possibly thousands of dogs backing up in trainers kennels.

We have 15 empty kennels. It breaks my heart.

Hugo’s Journey

On a more positive note, this is Hugo.

Three weeks ago, he was in the stray kennel in Leeds.

A short stay here and now…

Good luck little man. A cracking little lad…

Boost and Annie

Poor Boost is having no luck whatsoever finding himself a home. So we wonder if a search alongside his kennel-mate, Annie, might prove more fruitful? It’s normally harder to find homes for two but both Boost & Annie need re-homing with another dog for company, so why not see if we can find them somewhere together?

Greyhounds are used to living in pairs and often benefit from having another hound for company. And let’s face it… it’s no more effort to walk two… it’s obviously the reason we were given two hands?!

Boost (left) is a lovely quiet boy who retired yonks ago and has been waiting over a year for a home. He walks nicely on his lead (no drama or silliness) and his calm nature gives kennel-mate, Annie, a lot of reassurance. Her trainer tells us timid Annie is like a different dog when Boost is around.

Annie is a shy girl who takes her time to get to know new people but is friendly with the people she trusts. She can be a bit worried and needs patient adopters who understand that she is not yet familiar with the outside world. Annie gains a great deal of confidence from Boost and would find it easier to adjust with him (or another calm dog) by her side.

We appreciate two is a big ask but this pair really do benefit from each other’s company.

Dolly

Her connections may have rolled their eyes when she came in 18 lengths behind the competition, but little did they know, there was method in the pint-sized madam’s madness!

See our Dolly doesn’t care for getting sand between her toes. She’d make an exception for the warm & sunny beach of St Tropez, but in the drizzle and damp of Donny, it really gave her the ick!The solution she realised was simple… hang back when the others leave the traps… and dawdle your way to the finish as if you’re out for an afternoon stroll! And now everyone thinks you’re rubbish, you can spend your days doing what you do best… looking cute & pretty! Not a grain of sand in sight!Dolly is 3 years old, very friendly and cute as a button. If you can offer Boost, Annie, or Dolly a home, please email rehoming@tia-rescue.org.

Please leave your phone number in the email!

Wood for sale

As some of you may know we have just over 30 acres of woodland here, mainly silver birch. We have recently had the woodland thinned out, but the contractors have left an awful lot of decent wood on the floor.

If anyone is wanting any firewood for next year, please get in with Deb touch on on 07974 960684. We are asking for donations for the Charity.
