Cannon Hall Walk – this weekend!
We will be back at Cannon Hall, Cawthorne, near Barnsley with our Tia fundraising stall and Tia Walk this Sunday 12th April.
The stall will be open all day from 10am. The walk starts at 11am from the stall (meet about 10.30am) and lasts about 1 hour.
30 Years of Tia – “Bobby Connor: My First Greyhound”
“1995: So over the next six years and countless dogs taken home from the Police Station, or retrieved from the pounds, it had become a bit of a regular occurrence. It was collies at that time.
One fateful day, the 2nd of February 1995 to cut a long story short, my career was over. It wasn’t helped by my colleague who ran off when he saw the sword being wielded at us. Well what do you expect from a guy who’s first name was that of a yellow mustard.
I was off for quite a while. Eric and my two boxer dogs, Buster and Betty were sick of being walked up and down the hillside. Then by chance I came across an Irish man with a beautiful blue and white greyhound called Bobby, he had some more in stables behind the tip in Sowerby Bridge. He hadn’t the heart to put this one down as he was so well behaved. What?
Several visits and conversations with this guy and I knew where I was heading, and it was to Askern Greyhound Stadium. I wanted to find out about these dogs. So off I went….I had no idea what to expect or what to do so I put a fiver on a tiny little brindle girl, Little Tara. The guy at the side of me smirked…..she’s no chance love.
Well she bloody well had. She barged all the dogs out of the way on the last bend and won, fiery little thing she was. And that was that.
The next day I went back down to the stables behind the tip and took home Bobby Connor. The most beautiful blue and white greyhound I had ever seen.
I did go back to work but everything had changed. I also began to go to the tracks with the Irish guy….I didn’t really like it, but I liked the greyhounds. A lot…..
So I started saving greyhounds and in return, they saved me…. Deb”
Give It Up For Tia Rescue
A few weeks ago we launched our “Give It Up for Tia challenge!
The idea is simple… think of a small weekly treat that you could give up and donate the money you would have spent to Tia instead! Romeo here recently had a visit with the vet, during which he gave up something very precious.
And, if you’ve not joined up yet, click here to find out more and set up your donation. Giving up one coffee, slice of cake or glass of wine won’t make a difference to YOUR life but it will make a difference to the lives of beautiful dogs.
Izzy
Tia dog Izzy turned two last week. Here’s a bit about her, from her long-term foster mum…
“Batshit and being picked on by her littermates. Un-named. Wired to the moon. So read the notes on Tia’s database. Izzy’s breeder/trainer rang us to prevent an escalating situation. At five months old, Izzy wasn’t thriving like a normal puppy. Her siblings were doling out some alarming treatment and it was felt best to get her out of Dodge asap.
There were no shortages of possible takers for a squirmy, licky, bitey pup but then I realised something wasn’t right. I pushed the resident lodgers further up the sofa and made the appointment. An MRI confirmed that Izzy has a lesion on the brain and this was affecting her co-ordination and balance. A special home was sought and Izzy found herself flying up the A1 six weeks later, as neatly as you please. Sadly it didn’t work out and a week later, Izzy was enjoying the scenery from the other side of the motorway.
Another special home was sought but by then I was a dead duck. Izzy wasn’t going anywhere. Millie and Ely, my greyhounds, accept her completely and keep a watchful, if sometimes despairing eye on the family clown. They resemble class monitors and I sometimes catch a fleeting glance between the two of them as they observe her antics. Youth of today!
There are a few dark clouds on the horizon and there’s a curious development on her right hind leg. We’ll meet that trouble when it comes. Meanwhile we three are striving to give her the best life we can. Undoubtedly she is the happiest dog I have ever seen, full of beans and joie de vivre. Hilarious at times and a big favourite at the tin rattling. Izzy is our family’s daily Christmas present with slightly crumpled wrapping paper.
Happy Birthday my little sausage. I absolutely adore you. Mum (Jess)”

Dogs looking for a home – Annie
Who can resist her little face?
Bailey, aka Orphan Annie, STILL needs a home and family to call her own.
For more info on this absolute poppet, please visit her profile here, or email rehoming@tia-rescue.org
Dogs looking for a home – Lilly
Lovely Lilly has a booty to rival any A list celeb and our gorgeous pocket-rocket would not look out of place in the line up for Destiny’s Child…
- Michelle, can you handle this?
- Beyoncé, can you handle this?
- Lilly, can you handle this?
- I don’t think you can handle this!
But whilst Lilly might be a sassy little lady, she is certainly not hard to handle. She’s a friendly, sociable girl who walks beautifully on her lead and doesn’t bat an eye-lid when her kennel-mate, Teff, is being a bit of a fan boy.
Soon to be 6, she’s fed up of being a single lady and is hoping to soon find a family to cherish her & spoil her rotten. A very special girl.
If you would like to adopt a Tia dog, please get in touch at rehoming@tia-rescue.org, and please remember to leave your phone number in the email! We ask for a minimum donation of £350 to adopt a Tia hound.
Goings on…
The dogs, waiting patiently for their home cooked dinner and Kongs for an evening snack, as it blew a gale outside…. lucky dogs indeed.
And what of Norman, you ask? He was having a snooze…big lump.
