Rehoming

Dogs who have found homes…

June was a busy month for rehoming and started with Trixie heading off to North Yorkshire to join Marni, who was adopted from the same kennels a few years previously. Trixie is settling in like a dream, and Marni is delighted with her new sister.

Anton (now Cooper) has found a home with one of our long-time supporters and volunteers. A timid boy, he will benefit greatly from their experience and the calming influence of his big brother, Murph.

We saw not one, not two, but three dogs head off to Staffordshire! Bonded sisters Damine and Monet (now Lottie and Tully) were joined by their half-brother, Driller (now Benny), who celebrated his fifth birthday in his new home. Three may sound like a lot, but when you see the photos, you’ll understand why separating these girls was never an option. Huge thanks to their adopters.

Meanwhile, their kennel-mate Herbert headed north. He now has three generations of family to love him and was even looking forward to his first holiday the following week.

The eight-week-old pup who melted all our hearts is also now safe, happy, and loved.

Jimmy, who recently lost his mum, has found a new home and was already settling in well within days of his adoption.

There was more good news to celebrate as Baby Hilda officially found her forever home. After thriving in foster care, she was adopted by her foster dad and her four-legged friends, Nola and Pirlo.

We also received a lovely update from Douglas (Athlacca Doc), who recently celebrated his first anniversary in his new home. His family shared the following message:

“Hi. It is one year ago today since we collected Douglas (Doc). He is just brilliant, so much calmer, and very, very happy with his ‘sister’ Jessie. Around eight weeks ago, Douglas decided that he actually does like kisses and cuddles, so now has them all day long without being coaxed. This was earlier, after a few zoomies around the garden, they both settled for a rest in the shade.”

Stories like Douglas’s remind us that many other black greyhounds are still waiting for the same chance to find a loving home.

Your support makes happy endings like these possible, so thank you for continuing to help in whatever way you can, whether by adopting, volunteering, sharing our posts, or donating to our Emergency Appeal.

Blackout – still searching for a home…

When we shared that Blackout’s adoption journey had been a total washout, he received lots of sympathy and support but, sadly, it still didn’t lead to the one thing he needs most… a home.

Blackout is a lovely, friendly, happy boy who never seems to stop wagging his tail. He is great with other greyhounds and people alike, and he really does deserve a change of luck. Could you be the one to give him the happy ending he’s been waiting for?

If you think you could offer a home to a Tia dog – permanent or foster – please get in touch at rehoming@tia-rescue.org, and remember to leave your phone number in the email!

We request a minimum donation of £350 to adopt a Tia hound.

Coffee Morning in August

In memory of a truly lovely lady.

Avril had been a wonderful supporter of Tia from the very beginning. She volunteered running the shop in Meltham and organised clairvoyance evenings, dances, and coffee mornings to help raise funds. She never wanted any drama or recognition; she was simply happy doing what she did best, and that was worth its weight in gold.

Avril came to the Tia show last year, and one of her wishes was to raise over £1,000 at her next coffee morning. She had come close before, but had never quite reached that milestone.

So this year, we’re going to pull out all the stops and make it happen in her memory. The coffee morning will take place on 8th August, from 9:30am to 12:30pm.

Miss you, buddy…

Original Artwork by Jenny Wilson

We were recently delighted to receive some beautiful artwork for the shop, kindly donated by the artist Jenny Wilson.

Jenny is a self-taught artist who lives and works from her studio on the Isle of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides. Her paintings are created using a palette knife with oil paints on canvas, producing stunning and unique pieces.

The artwork shown below was available to purchase from the Pickering shop, which is open every day from 10am to 4pm. Please note that some of these items may now have been sold.

To view more of Jenny’s paintings and find details of future exhibitions, please visit her website: www.jennywilsonartist.com.

Books

A big thank you to Birsay Books, Orkney, for continuing to donate their books to us.

We have a wonderful and varied selection of books available at our Pickering shop, and they have proved very popular with our customers. When chatting to visitors, many have commented on the fantastic range available and have even shared that they have visited Birsay Books during trips to Orkney too.

The collection includes the ever-popular Folio editions, specialist books on Scotland, children’s books and annuals, along with many more titles.

Thank you, Birsay Books, for your continued support.

Zorro and Thor

These two boys are now 10 years old. A far cry from the death field in Wroot…

You can sponsor Zorro & Thor here.

Kennels

It hasn’t been that hot up here at all this year.

But it did reach 24 degrees at 7pm when the dogs nipped out for a quick belt round the other day. The kennels are perfectly cooled for the dogs…

I can’t even think about the poor dogs racing, stuck in “air-conditioned vans” and festering in foul, stinking kennels with no fresh air. The trainers will be bleating on about welfare standards, but I think we all know better by now.

A post shared on a greyhound forum earlier this week claimed that Hove trainer Maplesden has had to move dogs after the GBGB went into his so-called kennels, which were basically portacabins, and allegedly found inside temperatures of 39 degrees. The big question is who exactly allowed these to be licensed in the first place?

The fallout is that he is now working out his notice. Will there be a GBGB investigation into this serious breach?

Tia kennels… the Gold Standard.
