Another of the MacManus dogs, Bauer is a veteran of 106 races, and should have been on a sofa long ago. He had been rotting in his kennel since his last race in June 2022, until he came up here in August 2024.
Of all the MacManus dogs, Bauer is probably the most troubled. He has scars all over him; rumour has it that dogs were kennelled together without muzzles - the track vet was always stitching them up.
It took a while for him to come round; he would watch every move in the kennels. But very, very slowly he began to trust again, and then, almost 12 months to the day, decided that it was time for cuddles.
He is a lovely, quiet boy. Absolutely no trouble. A pleasure to have around.
