Experienced Yard Assistant(s) Required – On-Site Accommodation Available (2 Positions)
Location: Near Nairn, Scottish Highlands
Tia Rescue is looking to recruit two reliable and hardworking Yard Assistants to help provide the highest standard of care for our rescued horses.
We would particularly welcome applications from an experienced couple, as on-site accommodation is available. Individual applicants are also encouraged to apply.
Accommodation & Living Arrangements
A fully self-contained accommodation unit is available on-site for suitable applicants and is included as part of the role.
The accommodation is fully insulated and includes kitchen facilities, shower, toilet, hot water and electricity, providing comfortable self-catering living within the farm grounds.
Applicants will be responsible only for their own food and day-to-day personal living expenses.
Location
Based near Nairn in the Scottish Highlands, Tia Rescue offers a peaceful rural setting with open countryside and the opportunity to work closely with horses as part of a dedicated rescue organisation.
The Role
The successful candidate(s) will assist with the day-to-day running of the rescue yard and work closely with management to ensure the welfare, health and safety of all horses in our care.
This role would suit individuals who are confident working independently, take pride in maintaining high standards, and are committed to excellent horse welfare.
Duties include:
- Feeding, grooming and caring for horses
- Administering medication when required
- Assisting with veterinary care
- General field management and maintenance
- Maintaining a clean, safe and professional yard environment
- Following all health and safety procedures
- Reporting any welfare concerns or operational issues to management
- Carrying out general yard duties as required to maintain the smooth running of the rescue
Requirements:
- Previous yard experience (minimum 1 year preferred)
- Full driving licence and own transport
- Good understanding of horse care and welfare
- Good level of spoken English, with ability to communicate clearly regarding horse welfare, daily duties and health & safety matters
- Ability to work independently and take responsibility for daily yard duties
- Reliable, hardworking and responsible approach to work
Hours and Working Pattern
- Four consecutive days per week
- Rate of pay to be discussed at interview
- Accommodation provided on-site
Daily Schedule:
- 8:00am – 4:00pm: Main yard duties, horse care and general farm responsibilities
- 5:30pm – 6:00pm: Bringing horses in and evening feed
- 9:00pm: Final feed for older horses and final checks
The period between duties provides time for breaks.
As the role develops, responsibilities will also extend to include feeding and providing evening treats to the rescue dogs at around 6:00PM.
Due to the nature of animal care, applicants should be comfortable with a flexible daily routine and living on-site.
